Inter-American Centre for Knowledge Development in Vocational Training
In 1961, during the 7th Conference of the member states of the International Labour Organization (ILO), a group of Latin American countries proposed the necessity for a mechanism to encourage cooperation and development of vocational training, in a context marked by urbanization, industrialization, and education.
In response to this demand and following various reports, preparatory meetings, negotiations, and agreements, the creation of the Inter-American Center for Research and Documentation on Vocational Training was conceptualized and established in Uruguay in December 1963. This came after the signing of an agreement between the ILO and Uruguay.

Since then, working alongside a network of vocational training and education institutions, including labour and education ministries and social actors in Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain, Portugal and Cape Verde.
