Mismatches between the skills offered and the skills required in the labour market remain high on the policy agenda in both developed and developing countries. As well as the use of Big data is increasingly being used as a source of analysis, research, trend description and estimation, in different fields from health to employment.

This videoconference will try to provide a new look at the use of big data and skills gap analysis by presenting the main challenges and lessons learned identified from ILO's experience.

In October 2020 the SKILLS Department of the ILO headquarters in Geneva published a document titled "The feasibility of using big data in anticipating and matching skills needs" (Feasibility of using big data to anticipate and close skills demand gaps) which reviews the advantages and disadvantages, the scope and limitations of these new applications of so-called data science with the use of machine learning tools.

In this videoconference entitled Using big data to anticipate and meet the demand for skills. ILO experience; Ana Podjanin, author of the publication will share the approach, findings and main challenges encountered in this research.

This online event is organized in the framework of the ILO/Cinterfor course: Big data and skills gaps, where 11 teams from 11 countries will be working for 12 weeks to develop data analysis and processing skills, collaborating for decision making.
