Sub-Regional Summit 2023 ‘TVET: A Pillar for Social and Economic Change in the Caribbean’
ILO/Cinterfor and the HEART NSTA Trust collaborated to design and execute a regional workshop held from November 22-24, 2023. The event was themed “Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET): A Pillar for Economic and Social Change in the Caribbean” and aimed to guide the Caribbean towards resilience and sustainability through skills development by 2030.
Objectives of the Workshop:
- Strengthening Cooperation: Enhance technical cooperation among CANTA members and ILO/Cinterfor’s network to increase visibility for vocational training in the Caribbean.
- Promoting Integration: Advocate for an integrated approach across the region in preparing workers for the modern economy and improving labor productivity.
- Building Partnerships: Assess integration progress with key regional stakeholders, including employers, to ensure responsiveness and define strategic priorities.
- ILO Apprenticeship Recommendation: Break down the new ILO apprenticeship recommendation and its implications for training institutions and industries.
- Digital Transition: Explore strategies to drive skills development for the digital transition.
- Addressing Climate Change: Analyze climate change impacts and develop mitigation strategies to ensure sustainability at all levels.
- Advancing TVET: Formulate strategies to advance TVET in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), supporting economic and social growth in the region.
The workshop facilitated high-level discussions among policymakers, employers, and government representatives across the region. The dialogue aimed to address challenges and opportunities, guiding policy directives that will enhance productivity, climate resilience, and sustainability in the Caribbean.
This workshop represents a crucial step in driving sustainable development and skills adaptation across the Caribbean through collaborative efforts.
