The Haiti’s Centre for Professional Training was created in 1973 and it is a technical and vocational school affiliated to both the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MENFP) and the National Institute for Vocational Training (INFP).
The project aims to reduce a chronic deficiency of skilled workers. It contributes to the Government of Haiti’s efforts to reform the vocational training sector and address the shortage of skilled workers in Haiti. The CANADO centre is expected to become a model centre for other vocational training centres that adopt the competency-based approach.
- The Centre offers technical training aiming at training technicians, who will be oriented to skilled jobs.
- The training programmes are as broad as possible in order to increase the versatility of the technicians and to facilitate their adaptation to new technologies.
March 2012:
- 60% of the rehabilitation work on three buildings of Haiti’s Centre for Professional Training affected by the earthquake was completed. Lesson plans and learning activities were developed for three new programmes and were implemented in 2012.
- 65 professors were trained in the new competency-based teaching approach.
- 225 students successfully completed their first year in computer network technology programme.
- The project enabled the Centre to obtain the status of a certified Microsoft IT Academy and CISCO Networking Academy. These results have contributed to providing people with a quality vocational training programme that is in line with job market needs.
