44th Technical Committee Meeting. ILO/Cinterfor. International Summit: Vocational training for sustainable development 2019

In 2019, the year of the ILO Centenary, the 44th Technical Committee Meeting (TCM) and International Summit: Vocational training for sustainable development took place from August 6 to 8 in Montevideo, Uruguay.

The event, of international scope, was sponsored by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and the National Institute of Employment and Vocational Training of Uruguay and with the support of Uruguay Natural.

In total, 265 people participated, representing 41 member institutions of the ILO/Cinterfor network, from 23 countries in the region, including Spain and Cape Verde.

On Tuesday 6, the ILO Centennial Celebration Conference was held, with the participation of: Ernesto Murro, Minister of Labour and Social Security of Uruguay and Juan Felipe Hunt, Regional Director a.i. of the ILO Office for Latin America and the Caribbean. Subsequently, a tripartite Panel was developed with the presence of: Fernando Yllanes, of the Confederation of Industrial Chambers of the United Mexican States (CONCAMIN) and Employer Member of the ILO Governing Body; Amanda Villatoro, Secretary of Trade Union Policy and Education, CSA-CSI and Nelson Loustaunau, Undersecretary of Labour and Social Security of the MTSS, Uruguay.

At the end of the afternoon, the advances and challenges of vocational training in Uruguay were presented, followed by comments from: Juan Mailhos of the National Chamber of Commerce and Services, Director of the INEFOP employer sector; Milton Castellanos, representative of the PIT-CNT and Eduardo Pereyra, General Director INEFOP.

During the 7th and 8th the International Summit was attended by prominent speakers: Claudia Costin of the Getúlio Vargas Foundation of Brazil and a member of the Commission on the Future of Work; Rodrigo Arim, Rector University of the Republic of Uruguay; Jürgen Weller, Head of the Employment Studies Unit, Economic Development Department of ECLAC; Srinivas Reddy, ILO Department of Theoretical and Practical Knowledge and Employability; Carlos Hernández Mendocilla, Development Manager of SENATI, Peru; Márcio Guerra, Prospective Studies Manager of SENAI, Brazil; Antonio De Luis Acevedo, Managing Director of FUNDAE, Spain and Enrique Deibe, Director of ILO/Cinterfor.
